Do you love working outdoors, fixing things, leading projects, and being part of a mission-driven team? We are currently seeking a Camp Maintenance Lead. Join Easterseals Wisconsin and help create safe, accessible, and life-changing camp experiences for children and adults with disabilities!

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Implement a year-round maintenance program that promotes the safe and effective maintenance and use of Camp Wawbeek and Wisconsin Elks/Easterseals Respite Camp.

DUTIES:

  1. Maintain Camp Wawbeek and Respite Camp grounds, buildings, roads and mechanical systems in a safe and clean manner and in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  2. Assure compliance with all American Camp Association standards relating to maintenance, vehicles, facilities, and grounds.
  3. Assure proper functioning of all life safety systems, including smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, fire alarms and exit signs.
  4. In cooperation with department staff and supervisor, develop and implement an annual Camp maintenance plan. Report to supervisor on a regular basis the status of maintenance plan.
  5. Develop and implement an ongoing program of preventive maintenance to assure maximum performance and to extend the life of buildings and equipment.
  6. Coordinate renovation and construction projects utilizing independent contractors, under the direct supervision of Director, Camp & Respite Services. Assist to ensure compliance with design specifications and all building codes.
  7. Help assure the security of Camp grounds and buildings by regularly patrolling the facilities and by maintaining a relationship with the Wisconsin Dells Police Department, Kilbourn Fire Department and the County Sheriff.
  8. Maintain the fleet of Camp vehicles in good operating condition (vehicles, tractors, trailers, and golf carts).
  9. Maintain an appropriate stock of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  10. Assist in planning and coordinating volunteer work projects. Prepare facilities for special events including, but not limited to, Board of Directors summer meeting, Spring Camp Clean Up, Pancake Breakfast.
  11. Prepare facilities for rental groups and host on assigned weekends.
  12. Coordinate the opening of the facilities for summer use (turning on water, preparing the swimming pool, repairing building needs) and the closing of the facilities for the winter season (turning off water, etc.) as needed, by dates agreed upon with supervisor.
  13. Develop relationship and work closely with Camp and Respite Directors, Housekeeping, Nursing, seasonal maintenance, and program staff to assure successful Camp and Respite programs. Develop and maintain positive relationships with campers and seasonal staff.
  14. Communicate with Director of Camp and Respite Services regarding project budgets, seeking approval when appropriate.
  15. Appropriately code and send receipts/invoices to Director, Camp & Respite Services
  16. Supervise seasonal maintenance staff.
  17. Be available, or have maintenance staff available, at all times during the summer season.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Camp & Respite Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent. Some technical training highly desirable.
  2. Minimum of five years working in a maintenance field.
  3. Experience in a camp setting highly desirable.
  4. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  5. Good working knowledge and skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and vehicle repair.
  6. Valid WI driving license and good driving record.
  7. Eligible for certification as a Certified Pool Operator.
  8. Highly organized with the ability to work independently and to prioritize work.
  9. Willing to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings as needed
  10. Ability to work effectively with the public and camp staff; excellent interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrated ability to manage and implement complex maintenance projects.
  2. Decision-making ability to discern between making repairs in house or using outside contractors, e.g. taking vehicles/equipment off camp for repairs.
  3. Strength sufficient to lift and move heavy tools, equipment, and materials.
  4. Endurance sufficient to work long hours during the summer season and perform all duties as described.
  5. Ability to identify and respond to hazards related to maintenance functions.
  6. Leadership ability and maturity to enforce safety standards, health department regulations, and to promote a service ethic among maintenance staff.
  7. Computer and telephone skills are necessary to compare prices and order supplies online.

Seasonal Current Open Positions at Camp

Wisconsin Dells: Easterseals Wisconsin’s AmeriCorps members provide direct personal care and lead therapeutic recreation activities for individuals with disabilities, youth transitioning to more independent living, and veterans and their families at Easterseals Wisconsin Camps. AmeriCorps members will receive on-site training and orientations, a biweekly stipend throughout their term, and an Education Award upon successful completion of term. Members will serve closely with both general staff and volunteers to ensure that caregivers can rest easy while their loved ones are at camp, knowing that they will be surrounded by a professional and dedicated team.

Located in Wisconsin Dells: Starting at $17-$18 per hour (16-17 weeks, May through end of August), we are looking for an individual to join our Maintenance Department and assist with the upkeep and maintenance of our facilities. Responsible for helping keep the grounds in top condition. Assist Maintenance Lead in operation and upkeep of our camps on 400 acres that serve people of all abilities in Wisconsin Dells.

Experience in plumbing, carpentry, grounds upkeep, and/or vehicle maintenance preferred, but not required. CPO Certification is a plus! We will work with your skill set if you are the right person for the job. If you don’t like to have the same day twice, enjoy working outside, and enjoy working with a diverse group of people, this is a great opportunity!

Located in Wisconsin Dells: Starting at $500 per week (for domestic U.S Staff), these positions are responsible for the direct care of our campers. They provide social support, personal care support, mealtime assistance and help facilitate their camper’s day to day activities by accompanying them to activity areas and trips and providing adaptive support or direction and participating alongside them. They spend all day with their campers with the support of the leadership team.

Wisconsin Dells: We need nurses! We are looking for RNs, LPNs, and GNs to join us for our weekend and summer programs. We also have great opportunities for student nurses to work directly with our campers as counselors and programmers.

Located in Wisconsin Dells: Starting at $450 per week, Kitchen staff are responsible for supporting the cooks in the kitchen. Daily tasks range from dishes to laundry to sweeping and mopping. Food and nutrition is one of the most important parts of the day to ensure our campers are nourished so they can go out and have fun on camp! Typical shifts for kitchen staff is breakfast-dinner with breaks between mealtimes when tasks are complete.

Housekeeping staff are responsible for the cleanliness around camp. They attend to camper laundry when needed, change garbage’s, clean common areas, sanitize high traffic areas, and attend to other tasks as assigned with the support and direction of the Head Housekeeper.

Located in Wisconsin Dells: Starting at $500 per week, Pogram staff are responsible for making the FUN at camp! They plan, facilitate and adapt the activities our campers participate in during their stay at camp. Typical program areas are arts and crafts, music and dance, sports or nature. While not actively facilitating programs, these positions will be out on camp supporting counselors where needed- this could be during meal times, in the cabins/dorms and providing overnight care for campers 2-3 nights per week.

Located in Wisconsin Dells: Starting at $600 per week, Leadership staff’s main responsibility is to support the campers and staff/AmeriCorps members on camp. This could be support with camper behavior, personal care, group dynamic or additional supervision on trips or activity areas. Each leadership member has an area of focus- programs, camper care/staff support, trips, aquatics/ropes course. These team members receive additional training on staff supervision and support, camper support, emergency procedures and team building. These positions typically have prior experience working with people with disabilities, working at a camp or specialize is a specific program area.
