The ESW Transition Program is offered for young adults aged 16-25 who are planning for life after high school. This program offers services that best meet the camper’s life skills as they prepare for a critical time of their life. AmeriCorps is a program of the federal government’s Corporation for National and Community Service that engages more than 75,000 Americans in community service each year to meet critical needs in education, healthcare, economics, environment and veterans assistance.
The Transition Coordinator will provide outreach for, plan and lead life skills activities for Transition camp sessions. They will recruit campers, develop partnerships with public and private organizations, and help campers locate resources in their own communities. The member will receive extensive training in providing recreation and skills activities to people with disabilities.
The Transition Coordinator must complete at least 300 hours of service between late September and mid-May (approximately 7 hours/week, M-F), including two weekend Transition sessions. The position is based out of Easter Seals office in Madison. Additional events and two Saturday trainings are required. The member will receive a living allowance totaling $1,250 for the full term of service. Upon successful completion of the full term of service, the member is eligible for an education award totaling $1,132, which can be used to pay education costs or to repay qualified loans.
Applicants must have excellent organization and communication skills. He/she must be comfortable interacting with the public, including speaking in front of small or large groups of people. This position is requires a high level of independence and eagerness to serve individuals with disabilities.
