AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of those around you. It's a chance to apply your skills and ideas toward helping others and meeting critical needs of the community. Each year, more than 75,000 AmeriCorps members across the country commit to serving their communities in the areas of education, healthcare, economics, environment and veterans assistance. Please visit AmeriCorps.gov for more details about the national program.
In July 2004, Easter Seals Wisconsin was honored by the Corporation for National & Community Service with a renewable grant to recruit, train and supervise AmeriCorps members serving with our organization. Last year, 42 AmeriCorps members served people with disabilities through services such as respite care, therapeutic recreation, assistive technology for farmers, disability awareness, outreach and much more. With the passage of the Serve America Act in 2009, we are excited to expand our programs even further to serve more inviduals with disabilities in Wisconsin.
AmeriCorps members commit to a term of either 300, 450, 675, 900 or 1700 hours of service. They are provided with comprehensive training and a living stipend. Upon successful completion of their full term of service, the member is eligible to receive an education award, which can be used to pay education costs at a qualified institution or to repay qualified student loans. We offer positions during the school-year, summer and year-round. AmeriCorps members are based at our camps in Wisconsin Dells, in the Madison office or several other locations, depending on the position.
